
India and Portugal were tied for the 1st place with a total team score of 199 over 36 holes at the two day World Final (May 7-8, 2010) of the World Corporate Golf Challenge tournament that saw participation from 22 countries at the prestigious and world famous Oubaai & Fancourt golf courses at George, near Cape Town, South Africa.
A tie break final hole sudden death could not be played due to poor light at the end of the day therefore the tie between two teams was broken on the lower handicap totals which went in Portugal’s favour. The Indian team comprising of Manav Sardana & Aman Sawhney from Delhi and Sameet Sanghrajka & Yohann Pedder from Mumbai had a total team handicap of 41 while Portugal’s total team handicap was 24.
The Indian team made a spectacular bid for the title for the 2nd time which India won in 2008 in Spain with the best team score on the 2nd day – 104 points after they were lying tied 10th place overnight with 99 points the first day. The scoring format was on the basis of the best three scores on each hole of the four players off handicap. Australia was in 3rd place.
The highlight of the event was hole in one by Indian team member Manav Sardana at the 205 yard par three 14th hole on day one. This was the first hole in one ever scored at the World Final of the Corporate Challenge in 17 years ! The four member Indian team made it to world finals after winning the Take Solutions World Corporate Golf Challenge India, the official Indian qualifying tournament for the world corporate golf challenge in which over 1000 corporate golfers participated in four centres in the country this year. The spectacular Fancourt and Oubaai Golf courses have hosted many prestigious tournaments including the 2004 President’s Cup, the bi annual team match between United States and Rest of the World team outside Europe.
